Industrial Engineering – Macro Systems
Macro Systems engineering is considered as the most important major of industrial engineering in terms of its wide subjective coverage including health, information, supply chain, energy, transportation, etc. It is also the most comprehensive major of industrial engineering in terms of its scope, application, and various problem-solving methodological attitudes. From methodology and tools points of view, macro systems engineering utilizes a diverse combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. It aims at training professionals equipped with engineering knowledge, who will be highly skilled to design, implement, monitor and evaluate complex systems consisting of humans, materials and machines.
 Definition and Objectives
Systems engineering is a systematic and coherent way of thinking that enables one to recognize a complex system needs, and develop, test and apply efficient and coordinated solutions to address them. Systems engineering utilizes a variety of tools for analyzing and designing a system that ends up with efficient outcomes, whether it be a simple system or a major national project such as food security.
System engineers design, improve, and optimize processes and systems to solve problems with a creative scrutiny approach and problem-solving skills. From a methodological point of view, system engineering applies a wide range of techniques including modeling, analysis, simulation, control, optimization, tailored to manage complex systems with different dimensions, needs, priorities and facilities.
Unlike many traditional disciplines, systems engineering is a problem-oriented discipline that uses a wide range of hard and soft system approaches to solve problems, including operations research, data-driven optimization, system analysis and design, systems dynamics, organizational cybernetics, soft system methodology, interactive planning, and postmodern system methods, among others. In short, systemic vision and ability to solve problems systematically is a unique advantage of an industrial engineer as compared with other engineering disciplines.
Macro systems engineering major in
The School of Industrial Engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology takes advantage of prominent professors of industrial engineering, recognized nationally and internationally by their research achievements, highest quality of education and practical experiences in real world industrial projects. They provide a unique program for training systems engineers with invaluable scientific and practical wealth. The main goal of this program is to train holistic creative individuals who, after graduation, are able to solve complex problems.

Graduate skills
Graduates will be equipped with tools needed by a senior expert to:
Macro systems graduates will be able to provide efficient and effective solutions to complex and large-scale problems by acquiring a "holistic creativity" attitude. Comprehensive analysis of problems and providing creative solutions to address them is the main advantage of graduates. They will master a variety of hard and soft problem solving methods including operations research, data-driven optimization, data mining, process mining, systems dynamics, soft system methodology, indefinite programming, interactive programming and postmodern systems methods.
